Then some stuff happened.

Let's see: Eric's mail server came back on monday, which took some of the momentum out of me getting my own server up. So I'm getting my little Linux distro working with uclibc instead of glibc, which is a minefield.

Wil Wheaton agreed to come to Linucon as a featured guest, working it in as part of his "Just a Geek" book tour. Now we just need to get a response from John Kovalic. The next concom meeting is at Steve Jackson's own personal house, to which I'll be bringing 30+ liters of liquid nitrogen and lots of ice cream ingredients. (Molly was particularly annoyed when she heard she was missing this, but she's the one who decided to stay in Pennsylvania for the summer...)

I checked out the appropriate insulated container again from the UT cryogenics lab this morning, I'll go fill it at airgas tomorrow I guess. Yesterday I found out that that airgas now wants $1.75 a liter(!) for liquid nitrogen; $65 or so to fill the tank sitting in my car. Apparently the price goes way up in the summer. Supply and demand, I suppose. UT still wants 34 cents a liter, but I need to somehow turn money into an interdepartmental funds transfer in order to get the LN2 from UT. (I can borrow containers no problem, but they won't take cash or check; it has to be a purchase order drawn on the correct type of account. The cryogenics guys are very nice about this; it's not their fault, but it's still a bit of a pain. I'm honestly looking into the possiblity of donating money to myself so I have a grant account to draw against. It's that silly...) But for saturday, I guess I'll take the hit and pay Airgas...

The tile in my condo continues to slowly come up. I have two bottles of the evil sticky gunk remover (with the warning labels about ventilation and "do not have children after using this product" and so on). Right now Austin's mostly handling that, and he's putting newspapers down on the glue until he's got all the tile up, to use the caustic stuff in one go.

Moving the fridge to get the tile under it caused it to spring a leak, I'm not sure who fixes refrigerators exactly. It's leaking distilled water, so it's not exactly a health hazard, but it's still annoying. Another household to-do item. I called an air conditioner guy to come frown at the central air conditioning expensively on monday (preventative measure, I do this annually; it needs to be recharged with fresh Advanced Freon Substitute once a year anyway). Maybe he can do something about the fridge too, it's the same general principle. (I also have to remember to go to Home Despot and buy a new batch of air filters for the thing. Air conditioner, not refrigerator, in this case...)

One of Austin's friends is currently paying me to crash on my couch for a month. This is two people renting portions of downstairs; Austin is still living in the closet under the stairs (People keep calling him Harry Potter). Reese, meanwhile, still hasn't paid me for the whole room she's got upstairs. I've given her until the end of June before I box up her stuff. I think that's more than fair. She's off with her new boyfriend (Seth?) anyway, I haven't seen her in a week. I posted in her livejournal (ephemeral_ether) to let her know to come pick up her mail, which is on her bed.

The cat (her name is George) seems largely recovered from her trip to the vet, where she was "edited for content". I just found the pain pills I was supposed to be giving her in my car. Oops. Sorry George.

I'm re-reading Terry Pratchett books; more or less at random. The Fifth Elephant and now The Truth. I should organize my bookshelves enough to go through them in order.

I just missed the deadlines to get my "incompletes" from last semester done (Economics of Technology, and Psychology of Education). Darn it. They don't turn into F's, they turn into "permanent incompletes" which don't affect my GPA. Still annoying to have basically wasted last semester entirely. Oh well. I thought I had until the end of friday, turns out it was Thursday at 5 pm. Yes, I had a whole extra 4 1/2 months, but the last minute is when everything gets done anyway...

I still need to write up the Three Waves thing, and I actually got a proper write-up about 1/3 done for Tech Ec. This is the thing I did for TMF way back that got reviewed by firstmonday. I've been meaning to do a proper write-up for years. That and the "prototype and the fan club" paper, which is a sequel to the cathedral and the bazaar...

More to-do items...
